Big Island Color Training and Consultation

SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITH ON-SITE TRAINING

Not getting what you need out of those expensive classes and seminars? Consider personalized training by an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop and InDesign. Get several hours of on-site, one on one training for less than what you paid for that seminar. The features of Photoshop and InDesign are so vast that standardized classes, no matter how good, usually only give you some of the things you need to know. Don’t pay to learn things you either already know or will never use. Big Island Color associates work with you to determine your goals, then show you the best methods to accomplish them. And best of all, instead of some imagined scenario, you are using your computers, doing your own work and getting answers to your questions about how to best utilize these programs to maximize your time and investment.

ACHIEVE YOUR VISION

One of the special talents of Big Island Color is teaching you how Photoshop and InDesign "think." This gives you the ability to unlock their powerful features on your own, giving you a head start as you begin to discover more advanced techniques. As you begin to understand these programs, you begin to realize how to use them to not only create the visions in your head, but more importantly, to imagine new ones. Armed with this knowledge, you begin to teach yourself by expanding the ideas and concepts into other areas.

YOU CONTROL WHAT YOU LEARN

An initial free consultation will determine your goals. For instance, if you were switching from Quark to InDesign, we would put together a training program that would concentrate on mirroring your current Quark workflow, making the switch without missing any deadlines. Once comfortable with InDesign, we would move on to exploring it’s superior tools to maximize your artistic and productive potential.

In another example, let’s say you were a photographer who wanted to use Photoshop to combine parts of different images. The training program would start with the clone stamp and masking tools, then move on to layers and blending modes. As learning progresses, the training is fine tuned to concentrate only on the skills you need to accomplish your goals.

Individual or small group training can focus on only the things you or your organization need to learn. An hour, two hours, a day, a week. You only pay for what you want, when you want it. You can learn a lot in an hour. Especially when it’s tailored specifically to your needs.

NEED MORE CONVINCING?

A typical two-day course at a training center costs approximately $700. Two 8 hour days. 16 hours. Works out to less than $45 an hour. Sounds good. Or does it? OK, you get there at 9 AM, have a coffee and doughnut, get acquainted for a while, and next thing you know it’s 9:30. Then you get started and learn some things but a student is having trouble (on something you already know how to do), so the instructor helps them, etc. Now it’s break time, then a little more learning, then lunch. Get back from lunch, learn a couple more things, depending on the group of people you’re with, then next thing you know it’s 5:00 and the day’s over. You do the math. What did you learn, and what did it cost you?

Training from Big Island Color offers several important advantages:

  • You only pay for the time you’re learning. E.g., let’s say you book a training session at your site from 9AM to 5PM, 8 hours. Assuming two 15 minute breaks, and a half hour lunch, you are billed for 7 hours, not 8.
  • You pay the same price whether you need to train one person or your whole staff. You pay for the instructor’s time, not how many people you need to train. You can train several people AT YOUR SITE for the cost of sending just ONE student to a training center.
  • No wasted time. All training is based solely on your needs.

BE KIND TO YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER

Big Island Color associates come from the Pre-press industry and have seen almost every problem (you’ve never seen them all) with getting images to print. Fortunately, most of those problems can be prevented up front. The good news is that in this case, a little bit of knowledge can be a good thing. It’s not hard to learn how to prevent problems at press or in the process of getting to press. The first step is to develop a relationship with your service provider. They want to help you. A good service provider should be just that. They should provide you with the information you need to give them material they can reproduce without problems. Big Island Color can teach you the things you need to think about as you develop your projects.

THESE ARE NOT RESTRICTIONS

Just as in the past, layout artists had to understand the tools and techniques neccessary to produce a camera ready mechanical, today’s layout artists must understand the tools and techniques to produce a press ready electronic file. The rules are no harder to learn, they’re just ... different.

As you learn more about the process you will be able to use that knowledge to get even more out of your printing. You will not only understand the limitations of printing, you will also know how to push it to it’s full potential. When you look at a great printing, where the color practically jumps off the page at you, it’s because the process was understood from beginning to end. The goal was you holding that piece in your hand and saying, "Wow. That’s great color!"

You can have that look with Big Island Color as your partner.
